Topsham School, Devon
In January 2011, Topsham school contacted other local schools and networks to let them know that they had over 250 trees to give away, which were donated by the Earth Restoration Service. They ended up sharing these between 8 local schools, a local community food growing organisation (see picture attached) and local families. The school managed to find good homes for all the trees. As the nurseries were empty they then set about planting the new trees. This was done within the school’s Ecoclub sessions and as part of their grounds day in March. Topsham school will also be looking to give more trees to the local community in the coming years.
‘The scheme is a fantastic way of showing the children the positive impact they can have on the environment and showing the wider community how important sustainability issues are to our school.’ – Justin Vernon, Teacher
