St Nicolas and St Mary C of E Primary School, Shoreham-By-Sea, West Sussex
The school planted their School Tree Nursery, for 100 native trees, in January 2009 and have been proud to watch them grow. The whole school got involved in the planting, with the help of teachers, parents, grandparents and governors. Their eco-school’s coordinator said “It was a fantastic experience and we all worked together, knowing that we were doing something positive for the planet. The nursery and reception classes have done lots of the caring for the trees (along with the eco council) and made regular trips across the field to water them during the dry spell last summer.”
In November 2010 the school added 30 more trees of different varieties to replenish the nursery as a small number had not survived. The school is looking forward to finding homes for their trees later on this year and hope that they will all find a place within the local community!
