Sandy Lane Primary School, Berkshire

Sandy Lane Primary school received 50 tree saplings from ERS to help set up their own School Tree Nursery in March 2017. Teacher Ali Hatherly has kindly provided an update from the school’s planting day below.

“My class loved planting the saplings to make a new wooded bank for our school diamond jubilee.  They did this with me during the last week of the Easter term along with planting fruit trees to add to our golden jubilee orchard.  This was my final activity with the children before leaving the school after 20 years, so it was lovely to leave something lasting behind.

Half of the trees have been potted up to be planted in our forest schools area later this term. This activity supports a small group of children with behaviour needs as part of their out of class mindfulness time.
Thank you very much for the opportunity to get kids growing. As Bracknell in Bloom’s schools and youth coordinator, I understand how much children learn from being part of an environmental project.”
